Overview: Acupressure works to identify and release blocked energy centres in the body through a series of finger pressures on specific acupoints on the body.
How it works: When we become ill the life energy in the body is disturbed. Acupressure rebalances the body’s energies, regulates the function of the organs and improves circulation through the release of the body’s natural energy flow. This is released through a series of finger pressures along the meridians allowing our self-healing process to take place. Acupressure practitioners often use their elbows, knees and feet as well as their fingers to apply pressure to the points. Acupressure is also used widely as a preventative therapy as energy imbalances can be detected before there are any symptoms.
What to expect: The practitioner will ask about your lifestyle, health problems and general medical history. A diagnosis will be made through touch and taking the pulse. The number of treatments you require will be assessed on your first visit.
You will be asked to lie on a treatment couch undressed to your underwear; the rest of your body will be covered with towels. Sometimes you may be allowed to wear loose clothing. The practitioner will apply gentle pressure to the acupoints on the body.
Known Contraindications: As a result of the release of emotional tension you may experience a reaction after treatment such as cold symptoms or slight depression.
