Therapy name: Homeopathy
Regulatory Body: Self-regulation through the Society of Homeopaths.
Efficacy: Treats symptoms of illness, chronic illness
Overview: Homeopathy is a scientific system of healing which assists the body in healing itself.
How it works: The homoeopathic method is based on using ‘similars’ for treatment whereas conventional medicine uses ‘opposites’. For example, in treating insomnia a homeopath might give the patient a small dose of caffeine whereas conventional medicine would prescribe something to induce sleep.
What to expect: The homoeopath will need to know all about you, questions may include medical history, energy levels and lifestyle.
Homoeopathic remedies are usually given in tablet form although sometimes they may be given as powders or in liquid form. You should put nothing else in your mouth for twenty minutes before and after taking the remedy as this may interfere with its action.
Known Contraindications: No known contraindications or side effects.
